Thanksgiving Week in Soapland 2017

This post only discusses what happened on American daytime soaps the week of November 20, 2017. Below are my thoughts on what all four shows did.

"The Bold and the Beautiful" had one holiday episode on November 22, 2017. It was a traditional holiday dinner at the Forrester Mansion. Steffy was sitting at the head of the table, with Eric at the other end. The only people missing were Saul from Spectra, Justin (who I hope was with Donna and their shared grandchild), Zende who now lives in Europe, Sheila, and Ivy, though a Forrester there was no reason for her absence. Even Darlita got to attend the meal at the mansion. Everyone spoke about what they liked about the others as usual, while secrets abounded like not everyone knows about Katie and Wyatt yet, and Bill and Steffy's assignation.

"Days of Our Lives" had a downcast Thanksgiving, as Will was home, but had no memory. He was staying with Marlena who was playing gatekeeper. Will did finally get to meet his daughter Ari, though didn't remember her. Before that Chad and Abby stopped by, and Chad kissed Will's forehead. Theo was in a coma, and Abe was visited by Sami and Roman, while JJ was upset over current events. The main Thanksgiving event was supposed to be at Doug's Place, and hosted by Doug and Julie. Unfortunately we didn't see any of this, which probably would have been a lot less depressing than what was shown. The Thanksgiving episode was written in such a way that it continued after the holiday due to JJ visiting Theo, when it seemed like no time had passed.

"General Hospital" spent the whole week on Thanksgiving. We had celebrations with Liz, Franco and the boys, Robin visiting Anna and sharing the meal with her mother, Mac and Felicia, Lulu and Dante hosting an event for Maxie, Nathan, Olivia, and Ned, Carly and Sonny hosting an event for their kids though Michael left, and Alexis with the help of Dr. Bensch having turkey at her home to guests. Like Days, they ended with a cliffhanger of Oscar's mom recognizing Steve Burton's Jason, but then we were supposed to forget it was Thanksgiving, which was odd. On the Wednesday episode, Monica was all alone at the Q mansion, as she had planned to get out of town, she was visited by Billy Miller's Jason, who was surprised to find her there. Eventually nearly everyone through phone calls found out that Monica was alone and brought her pizza. Considering how Maxie got sick at their Thanksgiving though she's pregnant (the food wasn't palatable there), and everything got dropped at Alexis's home including Stella's side dishes, no one had much to eat.

"The Young and the Restless" had a Newman and Abbott Thanksgiving episode, where the two families were separate. Things were going okay at the Newman Ranch until Victoria was rude to Abby, so she left and went to her mother's home. Ashley made Ravi leave, due to wanting to tell her siblings Billy and Traci about Dina's health problems. Nikki's invitation was also rescinded for this reason. Nikki went to see Nicholas, and spent part of the day with him, though they eventually went to the ranch. Nick and Victor still don't get along, though he appreciated that this made Faith and Chelsea happy. Noah brought Tessa along, Reed was at the adult table and Faith got to sit with them also. Abby got into an argument with Victoria, and went to see her other family. Eventually Billy and Phyllis who had made up, and Chelsea and Nick were at the club. They decided to go to New Orleans together, Ravi couldn't go with them as he needed to work.

At the end of the holiday, I'd say that B&B had the most traditional and stand-alone episode. GH was good about having it over multiple days so we saw nearly everyone celebrate. Since Y&R only spent an episode, we didn't get to see all the families celebrate, but I liked what we did see. Days made me hope that Christmas is better, since Thanksgiving wasn't as hopeful as it could have been considering a beloved character returned from the dead.
