On Tuesday, August 18, 2015, Sonny Kiriakis as played by Freddie Smith left Salem and "Days Of Our Lives". The character's marriage was in tatters and he decided to help his Great Uncle Victor (John Aniston) with his overseas nightclub business in Paris, France.
Sonny loved his husband, Will (Guy Wilson) but the past returned in the guise of his former love Paul (Christopher Sean). Sonny had proposed to Paul, but Paul wasn't ready to come out, so their relationship faltered. Paul and Will had an affair, which was a huge reason why Will and Sonny's relationship broke. Another was neglect as Will went out of town to work, leaving Sonny alone in Salem. Later we found out that Will hadn't be true to Sonny while away either. Obviously Sonny was upset by all of Will's actions. Victor gave Sonny an escape by giving him work in Europe. Sonny first said goodbye to Paul, but then had the difficult task of telling his parents: Justin (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne (Judi Evans). They were shocked he was leaving so quickly. That being said, the real victim is baby Ari. Sonny was an amazing stepparent to Will's little girl. Regardless of what happens, I hope that Sonny and Ari continue to have a relationship.
During his time at Days, Freddie Smith won a Daytime Emmy. I wish Freddie well and I'm glad the door has been open for the character to return in the future.
