GH: How Robin was written out again

Since Kimberly McCullough's Robin left Port Charles, I wanted to do a quick write up of the hows and whys of the departure of the General Hospital character. Here are my thoughts on it, and I hope not to offend.

When Kimberly came back to GH, it was known that she would only be back with the show for six months. It felt like a lot of time was wasted having Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake outside of Port Charles at Cassadine Island and later how she was at Wyndamere having to hide from Patrick (Jason Thompson) and Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer). It was close to a month (real time) from when Robin saw Emma at the hospital, while in costume, to their reunion at the church interrupting Patrick's wedding to Sabrina (Teresa Castillo). While I understood why Robin would keep herself away to protect her parents Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Anna (Finola Hughes) as Faison (Anders Hove) held them hostage, it seemed like such a stall tactic.

Once Patrick found out that Robin was alive, instead of reuniting right away, there was a bit of a gap. Patrick still had feelings for Sabrina, he chose Robin. They had an impromptu vow renewal, with Emma officiating in the living room. Sabrina's pregnancy didn't keep Robin and Patrick apart either as Patrick didn't want to be with Sabrina just for the sake of their child. Initially Sabrina had lied, though the secret came out rather quickly.

Robin got a visit from Victor Cassadine (Thaao Penghlis), who was now in charge of the WSB. He needed her help to revive Stavros and Helena Cassadine. Of course, Robin didn't want to do this because both Stavros and Helena caused so much harm to the people of Port Charles. Victor shared that Jason was alive and this work would also save him. Due to Robin's past relationship with Jason, she wanted to help him. Initially Victor told Robin, she couldn't tell anyone the truth about her departure. She tried lying to Patrick and blamed the situation with Sabrina. Patrick saw through it, and they confronted Victor. He couldn't convince Robin to change her mind, though for Emma's sake he tried to be outwardly supportive. They told Emma and Mac (John J. York) together as both of their hearts broke over Robin leaving Port Charles again.

Robin made a round of goodbyes. She visited the hospital and spoke to her best friend Elizabeth. She and Carly sparred with Robin believing that if Carly knew why Dr. Scorpio was leaving, she would be thankful. Anna and Robin said their goodbyes as well.

This was an open-ended departure as we have no idea when the character will return. Of course, it is assumed she'll be back again one day, though we'll see if Robin will return with or without Jason.
