GH: Nelle's Departure

On "General Hospital" Nelle (Chloe Lanier) was jailed for her crimes, as the actress left the program last airing on August 7, 2018. Below are my thoughts about the write off of the character.

Nelle wanted Michael dead, as she feared that she'd end up with nothing - he would get custody of their child, and zero money.  We later found out that Michael and Nelle's wedding was not legal. Michael took advantage of this, and baited her to take action. She got her former lover Chase to help her. Chase, being in the police, was framing her, and didn't plan on hurting Michael. He lied about rigging the car, and Nelle admitted most of her crimes like what she did to her ex-fiance, and how she planned to hurt Michael. Sadly Michael was still hurt, as a prison transport hit their car. Nelle took advantage of the situation and ran. She gave birth with the help of Dr. Obrecht (on the run for her own crimes against Peter August - it seems like Kathleen Gatti is out for the foreseeable future.) Nelle then lied, and gave her living baby to Brad (Parry Shen) whose adopted son Wiley died. No one outside of Nelle and Brad know that Brad and Lucas are now raising Nelle and Michael's baby.

Nelle's actions also freed Carly, as they finally believed she wasn't responsible for Nelle falling down the stars at the Q mansion. Julian was given the blanket by Ava, and it was put in the nursery. Once it was found, there was proof that Carly was telling the truth.

Before being taken away Nelle and Carly had one last confrontation. While I understand why and how the character was written out, having her not be convicted leaves things a bit open. At least for now it seems like the character is gone, and won't be recast. Perhaps they will change their minds in a few months (or whenever) they decide to do a story about baby Jonah being swapped with Wiley.
