GH: Jason Remembers

On Monday, May 9, 2016, "General Hospital" had a Jason (Billy Miller) focused episode where the character regained his memory. Below are my thoughts and a bit of a summary about what was shown.

Jason's motorcycle got into an accident with the van transporting Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) to another prison. Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Nathan (Ryan Paevey) were in the vehicle to make sure he didn't escape. Of course that wasn't the case, but that's for another post. The driver of the van was dead before Jason could do anything to help him. Michael (Chad Duell) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) chat at the Quartermaine mansion as Danny is going to spend the night there.

After the crash, Jason "saw" people. His former love, Robin (Kimberly McCullough), his past captor, Helena (Constance Towers), his wife Sam, his best friend Carly (Laura Wright) and his former boss, Sonny (Maurice Benard). Both McCullough and Towers appeared as guests, as Robin now lives in California, while Helena died, but not before she cursed Sam and her family. Of course, Helena was menacing, threatening that Jason would lose his new memories along with the old, while Robin was encouraging. Eventually Jason figured out how to rescue Dante from underneath the van. Usually Jason and Dante don't get along, so it was interesting to see them be involved in a positive manner. On the May 10th episode, Jason told Sam that he remembered his past. (He still doesn't remember anything from before his accident back in the 90s, but I digress.)

I'm glad that after 19 months, Jason's memory has returned. In present day soaps, that is a long time to wait for a story to be resolved. I hope we get to see people find out that Jason remembers, and not just Sam for way too short a time. This is a huge deal, as he lived for a long time without knowing his past. Some of his important relationships were rebuilt in these months, but others were not. Jason also showed kindness to his biological family in a way he hadn't for the majority of his adult life, outside of Michael and his late sister Emily. Whatever happens, I hope that Jason doesn't become exactly the same person (except for the recast) that he was before the accident.
