Thoughts about "The Doctors" - July 1970

Another month's worth of episodes of "The Doctors" has aired on RetroTV. Below are my thoughts on what has aired for the month of July 1970.

Unfortunately, a couple of episodes from this show weren't available to view as RTV didn't have them. So part of how Greta was treated and the characters realizing how the bunny became sick wasn't shown.

Greta remained in the hospital clinging to life as the doctors tried to figure out what was wrong with her. Simon was her pediatrician, while Nick enlisted Dr. Vorst to help, along with pathology. Martha and Mike rounded out the team. Maggie and Matt spent most of the time fretting over their little girl. Once her fevered spiked and then became lowered, she was well. Eventually Greta was well, and no one else got sick. The Powers went home, but Greta was still acting strangely. She was livid over the death of her bunny Tiger. She destroyed Mike's term paper, and stole items from her parents, Julie and Mrs. Halstead. The audience knows what is going on, but no one on screen. Nick and Matt tried to protect Mike from the health advisory board who was trying to get to the bottom of what happened. Mike admitted his mistake, and procedures where changed so no rabbits could get contaminated accidentally. Matt went away to New York for a consult and Dan was acting chief of staff. Maggie stayed home and tried to find the objects that Greta took. Maggie and Julie chatted about potential people who could be responsible.

Dr. Vorst and Nick went out on a date, but now they are on hold due to other matters. Nick got a surprise visit from his late brother's wife, Stella. She came from Chicago, as her teenage son Rico was getting into trouble. He was the lead surgeon and lost his brother on the table, which is partly why he doesn't do as much surgery. Nick went back with her and gave him a talking to, but it didn't work. Stella returned and said that Rico was now in jail. Nick was his only hope that he wouldn't end up in juvenile detention. Nick felt cornered, but agreed to help though he had no idea how he could look after a teenager with his position.

Carolee and Steve continued to date, but he wasn't the only man in her life. Carolee went with Billy and Dan on a picnic. They had a great time, but Billy tricked her into going again. Steve and Carolee had a date night at an X-rated feature, and earlier the two of them brought food made by Mrs. Simpson to the staff helping to cure Greta. Later, Dan manipulated Carolee to host a party at his home. Steve realized what Dan was doing, got drunk at the event and accidentally dropped alcohol on Carolee. Dan admitted to feeling something for Carolee, which considering how recently his wife died was way too fast. Meanwhile Steve and Carolee didn't make up completely, but she agreed to meet him after going with Dan and Billy to the lake. Carolee never made it home, and Steve took it upon himself to find her. He rented a boat in the dark, and rescued them. On the shore, Steve and Carolee kissed while Dan and Billy watched.

Those were the highlights of  July 1970. Dan seemed like a nice guy, but now I am not so certain. Stella is really strident about her son, and I can understand why Rico was out of control with a mother like that.
