Anna was heartbroken after Ed decided to leave town for medical school. She continued her job at Hope Memorial as a nurses aide, but was miserable. Anna has a lot more ability than to be a professional filer. Matt agreed and got her a better office position.
Jody Lee and Liz finally went on a date. He sung to her, a song that became a hit later in the real world. It was co-written by the actor who plays Jody Lee (CC Courtney).
Matt continues to be hard on his son Mike. He feels Mike isn't getting enough sleep to do well in school. Mike still is seeing Nancy, though she isn't as interested in him as he is in her. Nick, Althea, Matt and Maggie saw Mike and Nancy go out, and Nick teased Matt. Maggie and Matt are still attempting to have a biological child together. Althea and Nick clash at times over Penny, as Nick is more permissive with his stepdaughter. Althea wants to meet the guy her 12 year old daughter is going to the movies with, much to Penny's chagrin. Penny and this boy spent the afternoon together in her home, but nothing happened except talking and listening to The Beatles. The kids want to see "Yellow Submarine" and that and its B-side were played on the show.
Carolee pushed Steve to go to Germany to see his pregnant wife Karen. Steve is completely oblivious to Carolee being in love with him. Carolee though wants what is best, and that's a relationship with his soon-to-be born child. Matt was surprised that Steve would go so quickly. Nick was upset as Steve just recently took a position in his lab as a fellow doctor. Once Nick found out that part of why Steve was going to Germany was due to Nick's words, Nick's frustration subsided.
Those were the highlights of March 1969. It seemed like a quick month as more than one story was shown.
