Another month's worth of episodes of "The Doctors" has aired on RetroTV. Below are my thoughts on what has aired for the month of November 1968.
Nick and Althea had their elaborate wedding. We even got to meet Althea's mother and uncle who walked her down the aisle. Nick and Matt forgot to bring the rings, so Maggie donated hers for the ceremony. At the reception, the photographer was a pain. On their way out of the reception, Althea and Nick avoided the rice toss and the photographer got covered. During their honeymoon travels, Nick had airsickness. Once they were alone, all was well. At home, Nick and Althea felt like they were sneaking around in their room. Nick comforted Penny as she felt overwhelmed by having everything she wanted. Penny was stunned as she finally had a regular family including a father in the house like her classmates.
Nancy Bennet was new at the hospital as a physical therapist. She lost her husband in the 6-day War as he was covering it as a journalist. She clashed at first with Nick and Mike, but eventually got along better with them. Nick invited her to his wedding, though she declined. Nancy has been a great help to her patient Anna.
Carolee, Liz, Jody Lee and Mike all hang out together and have a club celebrating the end of the week. They play games and eat pizza at Carolee and Liz's apartment. When alone, Liz got a frightening phone call from a stranger. She has no idea it was her former patient and board member Phillip Townsend. He's become obsessed with her and they went as far as changing their number, though the calls didn't stop. Hopefully Liz and Carolee realize that the person bothering Liz has access to hospital files.
Matt and Maggie were there for Steve and Karen. Karen nearly miscarried, but the pregnancy stabilized. Steve is still frustrated and Carolee provided an ear for him. Karen received a package of her father's things, which included a photo with Matt, which didn't help their marriage.
Those were the highlights of November 1968. I'm surprised by how topical Nancy Bennet's story is as who would think they would discuss the 6-day War on a soap opera. I also appreciate how characters on "The Doctors" have actual friends, and Nick's ease with his stepdaughter Penny.
