International Emmy Award Winners Announced

On Monday, November 24, 2014, the International Emmys were given out in New York City. If you've never heard of the International Emmys it isn't surprising as they aren't aired on television and are given mainly for non-American productions. Click here to read a list of winners and nominees.

Since I'm a fan of Mad Men, I wanted to share a link to Matt Weiner's Founder Award win. John Slattery (Roger Sterling) and Christina Hendricks (Joan Harris) from the series gave him the award. Unfortunately the clip package isn't available.




The categories at the awards are the following:

• Arts Programming
• Best Performance by an Actress
• Best Performance by an Actor
• Comedy
• Documentary
• Drama Series
• Non-Scripted Entertainment
• Telenovela
• TV Movie/Mini-Series
• *US Non-English Language US Primetime Program (*Added in 2014) 

Also given were two non-jured categories

• International Emmy® Directorate Award
• International Emmy® Founders Award

The winners were: The Exhibition (Arts Programming), Stephen Dillane (Best Performance by an Actor), Bianca Krijgsman (Best Performance by an Actress), What If? 2 (Comedy), Frihet bakom galler (No Burqas Behind Bars) (Documentary), Utopia (Drama Series), El Señor de los Cielos (Non-English Language US Primetime Program), Educating Yorkshire (Non-Scripted Entertainment), Precious Pearl (Telenovela), and Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter (Generation War) (TV Movie/Mini-Series).

I always wondered when, how and if telenovelas would get an Emmy. So it is great to see them honored in this fashion. Considering the Daytime Emmys have Spanish language categories now, it is appropriate that there is also an award for primetime non-English shows.
