Soap Stars in Other Places: Wheel of Fortune 1992

In November 1992, Wheel of Fortune did a Soap College Challenge from San Francisco, California. They had two soap stars play against a college student. This was unlike other WOF events as typically celebrities team up with civilians on game shows or play against each other. Below is my summary of the one episode available on youtube.com.

The actors that were involved in this week were: Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) and Michael Sabatino (Lawrence) from Days of our Lives, Lauralee Bell (Christine aka Cricket) and Scott Reeves (Ryan) from The Young and the Restless, Jill Larson (Opal) and Richard Lawson (Lucas) from All My Children, Fiona Hutchison (Jenna) and Frank Dicopolous (Frank) from Guiding Light. The episode available on youtube is with Lauralee Bell and Fiona Hutchison playing against a student. Fiona was playing for Columbia University in NYC, Lauralee was playing for Northwestern University in Chicago and the student named Chiko from the University of Hawaii. The clips they showed were: Jenna in the bathtub with Roger, and Christine talking to Danny about Michael's sexual harassment.

The first puzzle was solved by Chiko and it was slang. "Have you lost your marbles". She also got the second puzzle a phrase. "Twelve O'Clock and all is well". She won no money in that round, but did get a car and a mystery prize, which was a trip to the Bahamas at Paradise Island, which was owned by executive producer Merv Griffin. The third puzzle was clue and was Invented Bifocals. Lauralee got that puzzle, but no one knew other that Pat Sajak that it was Benjamin Franklin. The last puzzle had Pat spin the wheel and each letter was $250, nowadays if a spin was so low a thousand would be added to the amount. The category was quotation and "He stuck a feather in his cap" and Fiona got that right though she didn't know it was Yankee Doodle. The totals were: Fiona $1000, Lauralee $5850 and Chiko got $25643 (which included a car and a trip). This was back when people would pick a letter and she took W in the wheel. The champion's puzzle was occupation: and was Politician. Chiko figured it out with the letters RSTLNE and her chosen letters of CDMA. She got a savings bond for a $30,000 tax free savings bond. $55,643 was her total winnings.

Since this wasn't the last episode of the week, we have no idea who was the ultimate winner and got the most money. I wish there was more or that I had seen this week when it was rerun on GSN. Typically WOF seldom does events with celebrities, this was a rare treat.
