GH: Baby Connie's Trial Ends

On General Hospital, the verdict was in and baby Connie Falconeri's custody was decided. The infant, who had been living with Lulu (Emme Rylan) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) as her parents, was taken away from them and given to her biological father Spinelli (Bradford Anderson). Her biological mother Maxie (Kirsten Storms) couldn't spend anytime with her for the next six months. Below are my reactions to this story.

While it was wrong that Maxie lied about the baby being Lulu and Dante's child, the judge's decision was very harsh. Maxie may not be good parent material yet, no contact seems extreme. Visitation that would be monitored by a social worker or someone else appointed by the court would have been more appropriate. All of Maxie's dirty laundry being exposed in court was the cause of this decision, so while Lulu and Dante "won" that part of the case, it wasn't enough. Considering Lulu and Dante's pasts and what we know about their families, I can't even see them getting custody of this child unless none of Maxie's relatives were alive. Lulu put false information on adoption eligibility forms, so they wouldn't have been able to adopt through an agency. I did appreciate that when Lulu lied on the stand, Dante told the truth about her words. That being said, it isn't like he hadn't perjured himself in court, though that was to save his father.

The most disappointing part of this story is how I wasn't heartbroken over the loss of Lulu and Maxie's friendships. They became best friends in spite of what Lulu did to Maxie's sister Georgie. I loved this relationship, but now I almost don't care if ever become friends again. The other part that disappointed me was that we didn't get very much material for Maxie and her mom Felicia (Kristina Wagner) and her stepdad Mac (John J. York).

What I hope for in the future is while Maxie cannot see the baby, that Spinelli includes Maxie's family in raising her. Felicia and Mac should get to visit, and he should keep track of all the big and little moments that Maxie will miss. Connie needs not just him, but also his community. I'd love it if we saw Spinelli spending time with his friend Sam and her baby son Danny. Also when Robin returns I'd like to see her and Maxie commiserate over losing time with their daughters, as Robin missed a lot when she was presumed dead. I wonder if the show will change Connie's name to something else, as she got her name from Dante's late Aunt Connie. Hopefully some of the things I would like to happen will, but I just felt the need to throw that out into the universe.
