GH: The Vampire Story

On the Monday, March 3, 2013 episode of General Hospital, it felt like they resolved the Vampire story on GH. Here are my thoughts on it.

This is what I understood from what I saw. It is subject to change and possible that I didn't get what GH was doing. Caleb lived as Stephen Clay, who was a lookalike to John McBain (all roles played by Michael Easton). The ring gave him the power to body hop, and Stephen was a vessel for Caleb. When Stephen was killed, the Caleb personality migrated to the morgue attendant.

Lucy (Lynn Herring) was right about the vampires, but no one believed her. Rafe Kovich (Jimmy Deshler) was Caleb's son with Allison Barrington (Erin Hershey). Allison was murdered by Caleb in front of Rafe. The ring caused the sexual experience and conception of Rafe at the end of Port Charles.  What this did to Lucy as a character was interesting, though I'm not sure what to believe. It seems that she wasn't  completely deluded, but everyone feels she was. Lucy spent some time in Ferncliff after trying to stake John after mistaking him for Caleb and trying to kill him. Before she was sent to Ferncliff, Duke (Ian Buchanan) visited her and she referenced his vampire character from Port Charles, this was dropped in the story though nothing came of it. While at Ferncliff, Lucy spent time with Todd (Roger Howarth) and Heather (Robin Mattson). Offscreen Heather somehow convinced works at the asylum to strike, and while they did they faked being workers and went back to Port Charles. Back in Port Charles, Heather nearly was killed by Caleb while trying to steal baby Danny. He strangled her, and threw her in the water, but she survived. Todd was caught with the baby and went back to jail as did John.

Lucy set a fire to distract the police and running out along with John and Rafe who were freed from their cells by teenage Molly (Hayley Pullos). While Caleb was running free, he tried to kidnap baby Danny, but was stopped by Todd. Later he got both Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Danny bringing them to Wyndamere.  Lucy, Rafe and John went there and rescued Sam and her baby. Caleb's fangs were just plastic, and other than blood loss, Sam was only in danger from a delusion psychopath not a vampire. Everyone was freed after Mayor Lomax lied and said that Anna (Finola Hughes) as police chief was in on the escape. Everyone was happy to be freed though Rafe wasn't sure what to do with his life as his mother was dead and he had no family.

When watching all of this I was disappointed, as they brought Allison back just to kill her. I'm not a fan of when soap operas due this as sometimes it is better to just imagine a happily ever after instead of having it dashed for a small bit of story. Yes if someone is a Rafe and Allison shipper they are together in heaven, but before this you could imagine they were happily alive off screen. Also Livvie and Sam (both played by Kelly Monaco) looking alike and only Lucy knowing that Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) was Livvie's father, was also frustrating. While it was stated that Livvie was dead, it was sad that Kevin lost a child that he didn't know existed.
